Told you guys we’d release music one day. Here we are: BCR001!
On July 15, 2016, Bored Coast Records‘s first release will be available; a limited edition (40) cassette reissue of Beard Springsteen‘s two-piece demo debut, Downer Punks of Fredericton. The eight song recording was originally released digitally and on CD-R in February 2016.
Downer Punks of Fredericton was recorded in two hours in a local arts center in January 2016, by using three microphones. The following week, guitars were overdubbed, songs were mixed and mastered and the demo was ready, less than seven days after the initial session. Since then, the band has played shows in four cities with universities in New Brunswick, including opening slots for Les Hôtesses d’Hilaire and TV Freaks.
The songs of Downer Punks of Fredericton were originally written and recorded by JE (vocals, guitars) while he worked on his masters degree. After moving back to Fredericton, Josh (drums) and him began rehearsing tracks from Beard Springsteen’s solo catalogue. This initial spark of intensity and energy is captured on this lo-fi recording.
“who can resist a couple of guys who call themselves the downer punks of Fredericton?” – Ride The Tempo
“By some stroke of luck or genius, this bastion of misery won’t leave you down in the dumps.” – Broken Pencil Magazine
“an impressive addition to the band’s fast-growing body of work” – Grid City Magazine
Beard Springsteen is currently recording a new four-song EP with Dylan Ward (David in the Dark), out in August, on Bored Coast Records. The band then plays Moncton in July, during No Funswick 2.
